THE COLLECTIVE ECONOMY

GLACIERS:

They tell us something. We should listen.

More inclusive.
More sustainable.
Still profitable.

The Collective Economy involves, protects, and rewards all the stakeholders of a Society – not just the shareholders. And guess what? All living beings on this planet are potential stakeholders starting with you, your family, your environment.

It is time to consider the invisible side of the Economy and make it both visible and actionable. We are just starting, join us to think and act.

FAMILIES:

The Human sanctuary that needs security.

 Our primary focus

#Energy
#Infrastructure
#INDUSTRY
#MOBILITY

We tend to focus on the industries which are on the front line of the climate crisis: Energy, Infrastructure, Industry and Mobility. These sectors play a significant role in the transition to a more sustainable world, but they are also very conservative. By helping them move faster, we believe we can win the race against the clock.

WILDLIFE:

it should develop, not perish.

Our story

COLLECTIVECO was created by Valmetrics (a Swiss-based analytical firm) to accelerate the ecological transition using the power of Economics.

Belatedly, we realized what Humanity is facing.

On one side, the digital transition is doing exceptionally well, developing at an exponential speed, which is fine to some extent. On the other hand, the ecological transition is lagging, and entire ecosystems are dying, which has become a threat to Humanity.

Such a situation is hardly bearable.

That is why we felt we must contribute using the tools we know best: economic modeling, advanced data analytics, and interdisciplinary works (see our areas of interests). We want to demonstrate that political and business leaders can create superior economic, social, and ecological value by integrating – in their decisions and actions – the invisible stakeholders. See the 3 principles.

We acknowledge the prior existence and contribution of other similar movements, including the Circular Economy, the B Corps, the Economics of Mutuality, the Stakeholder Capitalism (among others). We have this collective ambition to make the Economy work for Ecology and therefore want to assure them of our recognition and support. We intend to build on their ongoing legacy and complete their actions with what we believe is still missing: an influential economic culture of collective value creation.

BLUE COLLARS:

hard workers, they deserve a piece of the bigger pie.

“Capitalism, as we know it, is dead. “

FORESTS:

highly resourcing, they should stay so.

The 3 principles

Principle 1 - More inclusive: COLLECTIVECO operates beyond the limited scope of shareholders’ expectations.

Shareholders expect a Return On Investment without too much additional consideration. Most of the time, they share the pie with two other players: the debtholders who collect interests and the State which collects taxes. Shareholders, debtholders, and the States form a capitalist trio who makes the game.

A Collective Economy identifies and considers additional stakeholders, especially those who are invisible but still concerned or impacted by the trio’s decisions. We classify these stakeholders in the following layers: the economic layer (customers, suppliers), the social layer (employees, families), and the ecological layer (flora and fauna). Although the latter one seems counter-intuitive, it is probably the most important as we Human and “mother” Nature share a common destiny.

We strive to identify all the invisible stakeholders and be their voice.

Principle 2 - More sustainable: COLLECTIVECO searches for and considers all the impacts which are invisible to the market prices (aka “externalities”).

In a fast-moving economy, most business decisions are made for short-term measurable outcomes. How can I increase my sales by the next quarter? One can make assumptions, take action, and rapidly see the results. But measuring social and ecological impact is different. It may not be easily nor immediately visible. It may take several generations to witness damages or rehabilitation.

Being sustainable means taking care of the invisible and the long-term for each layer: economic, social, and ecological. It requires dedicated resources to research possible externalities and set the right governance to optimize them.

We aim at making each strategic decision compliant to this long-term and optimized view.

Principle 3 - Still profitable: COLLECTIVECO recognizes a healthy and positive relationship between risk and return. The one who takes the risk should expect a correlated return.

This sole principle is the foundation of a progressing economy. It is essential to project funding and viability. Without it, funding of risky, and potentially impactful, projects would be minimal. That is why shareholders should be reassured that they will be rewarded for the risks they take.

However, this principle alone is not entirely fair and needs some adjustments. It only becomes equitable when the two previous (inclusive and sustainable) principles are applied. Indeed, shareholders cannot make a profit at the expense of non-decision stakeholders nor by creating negative externalities to the Society. The best part is that by combining these principles, shareholders will optimize their return/risk ratio and create more value for them and the community.

We want to make the risk/return logic work at the collective level.
